Historical Museum Ouder Amstel

The museum is situated in the historical center in the municipity Ouder- Amstel, the village Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. Ouder- means Old, and the Amstel is the main river of the region.

• The museum is situated in the picturesque centre of the oldest village in the  region, in 18th century  houses fromthe parish-board.
• It offers an overview of the interesting history of the region. This story is told by  old maps, models, things of use and photographs.
• Much attention is paid to the continuous struggle for dry land by dikes and  windmills, as well as to the neighbours in the region who illegally tried to drain their  water surplus in our waters.
• Also emphasis is laid on the history of the world famous Portuguese Jewish  cemetery, which lies directly opposite the museum.
• A small but interesting collection of china-ware and pottery from former workshops  in the village is shown.
